Whether due to trauma, previous orbital surgeries, congenital causes, or normal aging, one or both eyes can become droopy. This usually becomes apparent when there is asymmetry between the appearance of the two eyes or when there is noticeable visual obstruction.
Correction of droopy eyelids allows patients to appear less tired and can improve the amount of light entering the eye for visual clarity.
Your Personal Consultation
During the initial consultation, you may be asked to look in a mirror and point out exactly what you would like to see improved. This will help Dr. Boss to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
Maintaining a Relationship with Dr. Boss
You will return to Dr. Boss' office for follow-up care at prescribed intervals, at which time your progress will be evaluated.
Please remember that the relationship with Dr. Boss does not end when you leave the operating room.
If you have questions or concerns during your recovery, or need additional information at a later time, you should contact him.
How PTOSIS REPAIR is Performed?
In addition to extra skin above the eyelids, it is imperative to assess the height of the eyelid with the eyes open. Treating extra skin without accounting for lid position can lead to suboptimal results.
Generally speaking, a droopy eyelid is repaired with a hidden incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The eyelid is then pulled up through this incision to its desired position.
Dr. Boss then meticulously closes the incision using fine sutures to avoid a scar. Depending on the individual patient needs, the procedure takes approximately 1 hr. Ptosis repair is performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation.
Your Surgical Experience
The goal of Dr. Boss and his entire staff is to make your surgical experience as easy and comfortable for you as possible.
When can I resume my normal activities?
Most patients can expect to return to work within 1 week of surgery. Eyelid swelling and bruising is common and generally disappears within 14 days. Bruising around the eyelids can be hidden with use of makeup.
During the acute post-operative period, you will be asked to clean the incisions and apply a moisturizing ointment. Cold compresses and head elevation while sleeping will help to expedite the healing process. Sutures are absorbable and disappear on their own.
Fortunately, significant complications from otoplasty are infrequent. Every year, many thousands of people have their EAR PINBACK, experience no major problems and are pleased with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and risks.
